profileMy name is Oriana and I’m a 29 year old Sicilian who escaped from Sicily a few years ago. I now live in London, as many of my fellow Sicilians do.

No, I don’t miss Sicily and no, I’m not trying to convince you that is the best place ever. In fact, I think Sicily sucks on many levels, but it’s certainly one of the best places to go on holiday and have a great time. And if you want to visit that awful and awesome island, I’ll help you to do it right!

I decided to start this blog because I was tired of not finding enough information about Sicily online in a language that is not Italian. Actually, I was tired of not finding information at all, and I thought many people might feel the same way. So here I am, ready to share my knowledge with you and to find out new things about my country that I had no idea existed.

If you want to share your thoughts, comments and ideas, or if you’re are interested in writing a guest blog, please get in touch at secretsicily@gmail.com, or write a message on my Facebook page.

Thanks for stopping by and hope you’ll enjoy the journey!

  1. Hi Oriana, great to find your blog – looking forward to finding out more about Sicily, which has always been one of my favourite places. I’m putting together an itinerary right now as it happens for some first-time visitors, so I’ll direct them here too – I’m sure they’ll find it really useful. Good luck with the blog!

  2. Hi Oriana!

    Love your blog!
I’m finally going to Sicily! I’ve been dreaming about it for 7/8years, I’ve even convincend my best friend to go there for her honeymoon, and now it’s my time 🙂 I’m going!!! And I’m taking my hubbie and 2 baby girls with me. I have such big expectations that I’m a bit of afraid… I’m arriving in Palermo in early september.. Any advice? 😉

    1. Hi Rita, great to hear that, you’re going to have an amazing time! Advice: start with the food markets, then visit the theaters (Teatro Massimo e Politeama), wander around the little alleys in the city centre and check out the (mostly hidden) three oratories by Serpotta: Oratorio di Santa Cita, Oratorio di San Lorenzo, Oratorio di San Domenico (I’m going to write a blog about that very soon). Then take the bus number 806 from Viale della Liberta’ and go to Mondello beach! 🙂

  3. I love Sicily, Mrs Sensible tried to escape Sicily by moving to the UK. I persuaded her to marry me and we are making plans to move from Northern Italy back to Sicily.

I think Mr Sensible thought we would live our lives in rainy England…. lol

    I love your blog

    1. Thank you so much! Wow, that’s an incredible story… An English man convincing a Sicilian woman to move back to Sicily. Let me know how that goes 😉

  4. Ciao! I found your blog through Pecora Nera and it’s a pleasure to meet you… I’m an Italian American living in NYC with 50% of me Sicilian from Trapani.. Dad is from Caserta!
Piacere conoscerti e saluti da New York!
